City Museum and Art Gallery holds special events for Plymouth History Festival

Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is holding two special events this weekend as part of the city’s first ever History Festival.

The first event, on Friday 17 May, is called ‘Tudors at Twilight’ and will also mark the international Museums at Night celebrations that take place in May each year throughout the UK and Europe.

The free event will run from 6pm until 9pm. There is no need to book and people are welcome to go along for as little or as long as they like.

Museum staff will be joined by a number of re-enactors for the evening. Visitors will be able to chat to them, try on costumes and find out more about what life was like in Tudor times. Arts and crafts activities including helping to create a giant 3D map of Tudor Plymouth will also be on offer.

The second event, on Saturday 18 May, is called ‘Hidden History Hats’ and will take place from 10am to 1pm with last entries at 12.30pm as part of the build-up to the City’s Lord Mayor’s Day parade.

Plymouth has links to many famous people throughout history including artists, entrepreneurs, seafarers and explorers. This will be a chance to find out a little more about some of these fascinating characters and make a hat inspired by them before the parade begins.

Admission to this event is also free with no need to book. People are welcome to drop in for as little or as long as they like but are asked to be patient if the session is busy as activities will be organised on a first come, first served basis.
