Commonwealth War Graves Commission appeals for relatives of WW1 nurse

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) is appealing for relatives of a nurse who died on active duty in the First World War and will soon be commemorated by the organisation.

Nurse Olive Louise Bennett was 29 years old when she died on October 30, 1916. She is buried at the Plymouth (Ford Park) Cemetery and was part of the Voluntary Aid Detachment.

Olive was the daughter of Walter Bennett of Plymouth.

The CWGC would like to find Olive’s relatives as they may wish to know that she is to be commemorated and will receive a CWGC headstone in her honour.

Samantha Daynes, Media Manager for UK Operations at the CWGC, said: “Olive died whilst serving her country in the First World War and we weren’t alerted to her death at the time.

“However, now her case has been brought to our attention, and with the help from the In from the Cold Project and the MOD, we can now clarify that Olive does qualify for commemoration.

“It’s always lovely to be able to give a CWGC headstone to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to make sure they are never forgotten. We would love to be able to find family members to share this with.”
