Council cabinet members see resurfacing works in action

Cabinet Member for Finance Councillor Mark Lowry and Cabinet Member for Transport Councillor Mark Coker today visited Biggin Hill in Ernesettle, where Amey, the Council’s highway contractor, was putting the final touches to six days of resurfacing.

Over 3,153 square metres of road has been resurfaced at Biggin Hill as a result of the extra £2 million investment the Council is making in road repairs this year.

Councillor Lowry, who is also a ward councillor for Honicknowle, said: “This is a wonderful example of the high standard of work being carried out across the city. Biggin Hill has previously caused residents a great deal of concern regarding its poor condition and I am delighted that the road has now been resurfaced and relined and looking fantastic.

“I would like to thank local residents for their understanding while Biggin Hill was closed for several days. I know from the gangs working there that they have been treated very well and lots of compliments have been made about the road.”

Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We’ve made road repairs a major priority in Plymouth, despite being up against significant cuts to our highways funding from central government. We are working hard to make extra resources available and are investing an additional £20 million in road repairs over the next decade. Councillors have been visiting roads in their ward to see the work first hand.”

The increased investment being made in road repairs has enabled this year’s resurfacing programme to continue until the end of November. Details of which roads are next to be resurfaced are being announced each month.
