Creative summer fun for teens
Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) in Honiton is inviting young people aged 11 to 17 to get hands-on with art this summer during Summer Art Week 2025 — a packed week of inspiring creative workshops led by professional artists.
Running from Tuesday 19 to Saturday 23 August, the programme offers a fresh, fun way for teens to explore a wide range of artistic techniques, from sculpture and printmaking to photography and embroidery. Each session costs just £5 and is designed to introduce new skills in a supportive, creative environment.
Kicking off the week, sculptor James Lake leads a Cardboard Trainer workshop (19 Aug), where participants can craft their own wearable cardboard art. On 20 August, Simon Ripley from Double Elephant Print Workshop teaches printmaking techniques to help teens build their own collection of prints.
On Thursday, Marcus Davies invites budding photographers to THG’s pop-up darkroom for light experiments in the Dark Room Workshop. Friday’s Stitchtastic session with Molly Rooke explores darning and embroidery, transforming old clothes into vibrant new designs.
The week ends with a free Family Drop-in Workshop (Saturday 23 August), open to all ages and led by the Crafting Cowboy. Visitors can create “colourful critters” in this lively, all-ages craft session. A donation of £4 is suggested.
Summer Art Week is part of THG’s Create Our Space project, funded by Arts Council England, encouraging more young people to engage with art and galleries.
Councillor Nick Hookway commented:
“This is a really exciting summer holiday offer. We welcome young people to come along, get creative, and try something new each day.”
