Devonport Ninjas prepare to test themselves for charity

During the first week of September, three brave members of the Devonport Royal Swimming Club will be challenging themselves and swimming the Channel as a relay, raising funds for the Spring Intensive Care Charity at Derriford Hospital.

Two members of our staff; Dr Michelle Chopra, Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia and Dr Lindsey Arrick, Anaesthetics Specialist Registrar, as well as André Roberts, BSc (Hons) Chemistry graduate from the University of Plymouth, will be swimming a distance of 21 miles upwards, depending on conditions, as a relay and aim to complete the swim in less than 15 hours.

Dr Chopra said: “This is something that all three of us have really wanted to do. It is a tough challenge and will most definitely test us.

“The Spring Intensive Care Charity funds the purchase of state of the art equipment, supporting education and training and much more. It is vital in improving the care of critically ill patients and their relatives treated on the Intensive Care Units. The Devonport Ninjas
