A dispersal order designed to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Efford will come into effect next week.

The order was requested by the police and signed by Councillor Chris Penberthy, Cabinet member for Co-operatives and Community Development. It will come into effect on 13 December 2013 for around six months and will be in place around the clock. It will cover the school holidays over the Christmas and Easter period.

The dispersal area in Deer Park covers:

Deer Park Drive then left onto Military Road, then turn right onto Pike Road, continuing along Pike Road until the roundabout at the junction with Old Laira Road. The second exit onto Old Laira Road, turning right onto Trefusis Gardens and continue across Trefusis Park to join Compton Vale, cross Blandford Road onto Byland Road, turn right onto Priory Road, then left onto Chapel Way. Turn right onto Eggbuckland Road and continue to Deer Park Drive to complete the boundary.

Councillor Penberthy said: “We are working with the police and other partners to tackle anti-social behaviour in a number of ways so everyone can have a fun and safe Christmas break.

"The dispersal order helps the police in their work and helps improve the situation in the neighbourhood for those who live there.”

Other measures to tackle anti-social behaviour will include:

  • Targeting the illegal sale of alcohol to under 18s
  • Targeting over 18s who may be buying alcohol to give to under 18s
  • Community information leaflet drop to highlight problem to residents and encourage reporting of anti-social behaviour
  • Additional high visibility policing in the area.

The dispersal order is subject to call-in by Scrutiny.
