Elderly man rescued after living room fire in Cullompton
An elderly man has been rescued from a property in Shortlands Road, Cullompton early this morning (Sunday 12 May) after a fire in his living room.
Fire and Rescue services report that three fire engines from Cullompton, Exeter Middlemoor and Tiverton were dispatched after a call was received from a neighbour describing alarms sounding and a smell of smoke. The neighbour stated she believed there was a person inside.
On arrival, fire crews confirmed there was smoke issuing and a person inside. They entered the property using two sets of breathing apparatus, a hose reel and a covering jet.
The elderly man was rescued and given first aid and was cared for by local ambulance services.
Fire crews confirmed that there was a small fire in the lounge of the property and that a fire investigation is being carried out.
