Elderly woman seriously hurt in collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to a two-vehicle collision in Staddiscombe, Plymouth, which left an elderly woman with life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services were called to Bovisand Road around 11am after the collision between a red Ford Fiesta and a white Rover Mini.

The Mini driver, a 79-year-old woman from the Wembury area, sustained serious injuries, described as life-threatening. She was airlifted by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The Fiesta driver, an 18-year-old man from Plymouth was uninjured.

The road was closed for six hours for police to carry out an examination of the scene and traffic was diverted through Wembury,

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which happened at the junction of Renney Road between Staddiscombe and West Wembury.

The mini had been travelling towards West Wembury along Bovisand Road and the Fiesta was heading towards Bovisand Road along Renney Road.
