Emergency road closure near Chillaton

An emergency closure is in place on the road at Coryton, near Chillaton, for safety reasons.

Devon County Council has been monitoring the condition of the retaining wall on the section of the road from Perry Spears to The White House near Chillaton throughout this year.

Temporary two-way traffic lights have been in place since January in order to keep traffic away from the worst affected lane due to concerns over the stability of the road.

Following the latest surveys by consultant geologists, the road has deteriorated and the County Council has been advised that it now has to be fully closed to traffic and pedestrians on safety grounds with immediate effect from today (Friday 4 December).

The County Council has been working hard to design a repair scheme and is continuing to work closely with land agents.

It is hoped that repair work can start early in the new year.
