Flavour Fest turns into Flavour Feast for Plymouth kids

Disadvantaged children enjoying a respite break in Devon have been enjoying the taste of Langage Farm dairy ice cream as a year’s supply was donated by a local woman after she scooped first prize in a competition held at Plymouth’s Flavour Fest this summer.

Visitors to the Plymouth City Centre Company event were invited to take part in the Langage Farm competition in August. This involved taking a photograph of themselves in the ‘Cow Cut Out’ and posting it on social media.

The ‘Cow Cut Out’ was a cardboard cut-out of a cow with the face removed. Entrants to the competition needed to pose for a photograph with their face in the cut out and post it on social media.

Hundreds of people, including babies and grandparents took part and those with the most Facebook likes and Twitter retweets were the prize winners.

Local resident Kate Treleaven was named the overall winner walking away with a year’s supply of ice cream, which she donated to the children’s charity CHICKS. A family hamper was awarded as second prize and a family Devon cream tea as the third.

CHICKS  is a national children’s charity that provides free respite breaks for disadvantaged children from across the UK, including many from the Plymouth area and across Devon.

Azita Shamsolahi from CHICKS said: ‘‘I’d like to say a huge thank you to Kate Treleaven for donating the prize to CHICKS and to Langage Farm for kindly delivering it to our Moorland Retreat in Devon.

‘‘It is a real treat for the children and they have absolutely loved trying the different flavours – bubble-gum has been especially popular!

‘‘As a charity that receives no government funding and relies completely on voluntary donations, support like this is greatly appreciated.’’

Kate Treleaven from Kingsbridge said “I love Langage Farm ice cream but couldn’t imagine keeping a year’s supply all to myself! I really admire the work that CHICKS charity do and know that the kids coming to stay at their Devon retreat over the next few weeks and months will appreciate this little treat.”

Paul Winterton from Langage Farm Dairy said: “It was a fun competition and it was lovely to see everyone get so involved both at Flavour Fest and online - we had some very funny photos!  It was very interesting to use social media for the competition - the results were staggering.  As a local company, we're especially delighted that local charity CHICKS received the overall prize."

Flavour Fest is a yearly event held in Plymouth City Centre showcasing around 120 local food and drink traders, cookery demonstrations and a ‘Food is Fun’ area for the children which was sponsored by Langage Farm.
