Flowers take centre stage at Seaglass Gallery art exhibition
‘Flower Power’- a celebration of floral beauty
This exhibition is a collaboration of the Seaglass Gallery in Lympstone and award winning, west- country artists, including Tom Stevenson, Louise Banks and Julie Dunster. It celebrates the timeless beauty of flower paintings from traditional to contemporary and realistic to abstract.
The gallery walls will dance with colour as flowers breathe their beauty from oils, watercolours and mixed media paintings. Ceramic flower vessels from tiny bud vases to larger statement pieces, all unique and created from accomplished Devon potters including Helen McCormick, Tina Hill-Art and Debbie Stewart, will delight in their beauty.
Bespoke floral- themed silver jewellery will also be on display as part of the exhibition.
The ‘Flower Power’ exhibition will run 11-4 daily from Friday 7th June until Sunday 16th June. The Preview is from 6-8 on Wednesday 5th June.
Charlotte and Bruce, Seaglass Gallery’s owners, who will be curating the exhibition, say: Flowers have long been used to signify and communicate love and friendship, to console and to celebrate milestones during life’s journey. This talented collective of artists and makers have captured the importance of flowers.
Roses, wildflowers, memories of childhood garden games and the beckoning of sunlit spaces encourage you to pause a while.
From petals unfurling to summer shadows caught on canvas, the exhibition will have something to delight everyone.
Art is good for the soul, and we believe art exhibitions should be for everyone, so entry is free and all are welcome in our calm and creative space’.
Julie Dunster says: ‘I can’t help but smile when painting flowers. Pretty, transient symbol of life; markers of the seasons, casters of intricate shadows and reminders of relationships and moments. I always paint real flowers, so I’m often enveloped in their scent and like to notice their individual shapes and how they shift over time. ‘
Hesta Singlewood says: ‘Marking the seasons by painting flowers, I embrace the healing effects of nature in my work. My little garden and allotment are the places I paint, plant and restore myself. Each whimsical painting comes from the heart and has its own story.’
Our art exhibition will run at the same time as the Lympstone Garden Festival which will give people the opportunity to step into some of Lympstone’s secret gardens, both large and small including Lympstone Manor which will be inviting visitors to explore their garden sculpture trail. The festival will be raising money for Exmouth and Lympstone Hospisecare and in Seaglass Gallery we will be selling greetings cards and small posies to raise money for this important charity. Make a day of it viewing art, gardens and the beautiful Exe estuary.
