Fourth person held in connection with Looe attacks

A fourth man (a 22-year-old from Looe) has been arrested in connection with a series of attacks in Looe.

The man has been released on police bail until this evening (22 July).

A man and a woman from Plymouth and a woman from Liskeard were victims of what the police have described as a "nasty series of events" in Looe on Saturday 13 July.

Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses to three serious assaults which occurred in the Cornish town just after midnight.

The first of the three assaults, which police are linking together, happened outside the Ship Inn, Fore Street in East Looe at around midnight when a 32-year-old Liskeard woman was assaulted by two other women, and knocked unconscious to the ground. She suffered a black eye and cut nose.

Police say that the victim believes the assault took place because of an earlier misunderstanding in the Quay Club over who was next to be served drinks.

Two more assaults then occurred in Buller Street where a woman and a man were attacked in the street by a group of two women and three men.

The couple received serious injuries after being punched and kicked to the ground by the group. They were then dragged into an alley where the assaults continued.

The female victim suffered a hairline fracture to her arm and a laceration to her skull. The man suffered a cracked rib, two swollen eyes and cheeks and cuts to his nose, lips and eyebrow.

All three victims, a 27-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, both from Plymouth, and the 32-year-old Liskeard woman were taken to hospital as a result of their injuries.

Police initially arrested three people - a 23-year-old Plymouth woman, and a 29-year-old woman and 21-year-old man, both from Liskeard.

They were later released on police bail until 9 September 2013.

A police spokesman said: “This is a particularly nasty series of events which is unusual for the area. We are particularly interested in hearing from any witnesses dining in Zute Restaurant on Buller Street at the time. Although three arrests were made we are still seeking the identity of two other male suspects.”
