Future construction careers showcased at Devon MP’s career fair
A local five-star housebuilder were one of the employers that attended a career fair thrown at South Devon College by Anthony Mangnall MP.
Persimmon Homes spoke to the Member of Parliament for Totnes and local students about the job opportunities available in the construction sector, including the company’s proud tradition of offering apprenticeships.
The developer is behind the Inglewood site in Paignton, around the corner from the College, where 373 homes for local people will be built, 112 of which will be transferred to a local housing association. The first phase will see 70 new two, three, and four-bed made available.
The site will also be home to a dedicated Construction Training Hub as part of a partnership between Persimmon and the College. Students will gain real life experience of working on a construction site, providing the opportunity to practice the skills they learn in a ‘live’ site environment.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes’ Regional Apprenticeships Manager, Andy Wallis, said: “It was great to talk to students at South Devon College and those from other educational providers in the area, and to highlight the brilliant career paths that the construction industry provides.
“Carpentry, bricklaying, and surveying are just the beginning, with roles in departments like finance and sales providing other prosperous employment routes that will help people work in the area they grew up, thanks to Persimmon’s Britain-wide footprint.
“I was also pleased to have the chance to speak with Mr Mangnall to speak about how we are delivering in the local area, including at nearby Inglewood site, which will be more than just a chance to provide homes and jobs, but also education through our partnership with the College there.
“With the summer break over, Persimmon looks forward to continuing its presence at careers fairs across the South West, as well as our programme of bespoke talks with schools and colleges.”
