On Thursday 28 November Plymouth will be bringing a taste of America to the Historic Barbican to celebrate Thanksgiving, the holiday of the pilgrim fathers who set sail from Plymouth nearly 400 years ago.

The event, which commemorates the city’s close ties with America and its Mayflower heritage, aims to raise awareness of the upcoming Mayflower 400th anniversary celebrations in 2020. As the city from which the pilgrims set sail for the New World in 1620, Plymouth is very proud of its historical connections with the US and each year a Thanksgiving celebration is held.

The celebrations start from 10.30am where there will be a flag raising ceremony at the Guildhall. A short ceremony with local schools, St Maurice Primary School and St Peter’s, will be held from 11am at the Mayflower Steps.

From 5pm until 6.30pm there will be an entertainment programme from 5pm and we would like to hear from local people interested in taking part and contributing to the programme. From stilt walking to music to dance or even historic re-enactments, for further details please contact: eventbookings@plymouth.gov.uk
