History Centre sets out its stall at market

Representatives from Plymouth City Council and its partners in the History Centre, will be at the Plymouth City Market until Friday 30 October.

They will be consulting with the public, on the design of the exciting new Plymouth History Centre, which will be the Jewel in the Crown of the Plymouth Cultural Quarter. The site of the existing Plymouth Museum and Art Gallery, Library, and St Luke’s Church, will be transformed into a state-of-the-art cultural centre - with Plymouth’s own ‘Turbine Hall’ and public square - to provide a world class visitor attraction.

The public will be able to view the latest building plans, and local film footage will be shown. Various objects and images will also be available together with other information about the project.

Councillor Peter Smith, Deputy Leader of Plymouth City Council said: “I am delighted that we have this opportunity to share our plans for the exciting new History Centre. I hope that we get views and opinions from as many people as possible, from all sections of the community, to help us shape this new project.”

Paul Brookes, Programme Director of the History Centre said: “We will be asking the public what they think about the design of the new Plymouth History Centre, their views on what should be exhibited within it, ideas for what outdoor events can be programmed in Tavistock Place, and what they would like to see in our collections.

"We will be running these consultations throughout the winter, and are really keen to hear what people think.”
