HMS Heroes take part in remembrance festival

At this time of year, we are all remembering those who serve and have served in our armed forces, across the generations.

This is particularly poignant for Plymouth’s HMS Heroes young people, all of whom have had at least one member of their family serving in the military.

Every year the HMS Heroes Choir sing at the Festival of Remembrance at the Plymouth Pavilions, which is taking place this year on Friday 6 November.

The choir, part of Plymouth Youth Music Service ensembles is open to all military and veterans children and meets weekly in Plymouth Guildhall, new members are always welcome.

HMS Heroes, which was formed in 2010, is a support network made up of pupils from primary and secondary schools across Plymouth who have parents or carers in the armed forces or who are veterans. It is supported, at local level, by Plymouth City Council and provides practical help and advice to service and veterans’ children ranging from pre-school to 18 years old.

Councillor Sue McDonald, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Public Health said: “Plymouth has strong military ties and I know that all the members of HMS Heroes are incredibly proud of the part they play our remembrance services. These young people are Plymouth's ambassadors and young advocates for service families but most importantly, they are friends for each other, especially in times of need. I’m incredibly proud of all them.”
