Homeless hound longs for new home after a year in kennels

Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is appealing to local dog lovers to give a homeless hound a home after exactly a year in kennels.

Four-year-old Collie Cross, Goldie, arrived at the West Down rehoming centre on March 30th 2016, and staff did not expect for her to still be with them a year later.

But sadly, Goldie has now been overlooked by more than 5,000 potential adopters and has seen the first anniversary of her arrival come and go. Staff are hoping that it won’t be too long before her special someone decides she’s the four-legged friend they are looking for.

Elise Watson, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe, said: “Poor Goldie really deserves a home to call her own. She’s a typical Collie who loves playing fetch with a ball all day long and responds really well to positive reward-based training. She adores her toys and likes to choose a new one to take into her kennel every day!

“Her ideal home would be quiet, away from hustle and bustle with a limited number of visitors as she can be weary of strangers. But she’d love a big garden to run around in and a nice comfy bed where she can relax in at the end of the day.

“Goldie needs owners who are happy to take their time building a bond with her and who is happy to come to the centre a few times to meet her. Once she knows and trusts you she likes a fuss and would make a great pet in the right home. We just need that special someone to give her a chance to have the wonderful life she deserves."
