Leading housebuilder donates Christmas turkeys to Plymouth Foodbank
A leading housebuilder has supported local families this Christmas after donating a number of turkeys to the Plymouth Foodbank.
The charity visited Persimmon Homes’ head office in Derriford on Thursday to collect six turkeys which will be used to supply local families in the City with a hot Christmas-day meal.
Plymouth Foodbank is part of a nationwide network supported by The Trussell Trust, and provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people across the City who are referred to them in crisis.
Persimmon is one of the UK’s leading housebuilders with a significant presence in and around Plymouth with sites such as Palmerston Heights in Derriford, and Saltram Meadow in Plymstock.
Commenting on the company’s contribution, Adam Church, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes Cornwall and West Devon, said: “The cost-of-living challenges are hitting a number of families locally in Plymouth, and particularly so this Christmas.
“As a local business with a significant housebuilding footprint in Plymouth, Persimmon and our staff wanted to do our bit to support local people at this difficult time.
“We hope the turkey donation can help Maria and the team at Plymouth Foodbank as they support numerous local families in need this Christmas.”
Commenting on the donation, Maria Mills, Project Manager at Plymouth Foodbank said: “On behalf of Plymouth Foodbank I would like to pass on my thanks and gratitude to Persimmon Cornwall and West Devon for enabling the foodbank to be in a position to offer a substantial food parcel.
“This has been one of the busiest times our Foodbank has witnessed since we first opened our doors 14 years ago, and the demand has seen a huge increase in the need for food items to support families and individuals.
“We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry, and that’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis.
“We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for their kind donation, which will provide a further six local families in Plymouth with a hot, substantial and nourishing meal this Christmas.”
