Lewtrenchard manor reopens following extensive renovation
Historic country house hotel Lewtrenchard Manor has officially reopened its doors following an extensive renovation by independent hotel group Original Collection. Nestled in a secluded valley near Okehampton, the Grade II*-listed Jacobean manor began welcoming guests again on 25 July 2025, with bookings now open via its new website: www.lewtrenchardmanor.co.uk.
The restoration marks a new chapter for the 900-year-old estate, following a long-term lease agreement between Original Collection and the property’s owner, The Baring-Gould Corporation. The project has seen major upgrades, including a new roof, plumbing, contemporary bathrooms, a state-of-the-art kitchen, and improved guest parking. All works were completed with care to retain the building’s historic charm, original plasterwork, and antiques collection.
Original Collection founder Nick Dent said: “We’re proud to be the new custodians of Lewtrenchard Manor. We’ve taken great care to restore its historic character while upgrading guest facilities. We’re excited to welcome people back to make special new memories in this truly unique place.”
The manor’s restaurant has also reopened under a new name: Origin. Open to residents and non-residents, Origin will offer á la carte and tasting menus, celebrating South West produce through fine dining.
Additional plans for expanding guest experiences at Lewtrenchard Manor are already underway. An open evening for local businesses and media is scheduled for September. Interested parties are invited to contact marketing@original.co.uk to attend.
Originally listed in the Domesday Book of 1086, Lewtrenchard Manor blends centuries of history with modern comfort. Today, it offers individually decorated rooms, elegant gardens, and breathtaking views across the Devon countryside—all just moments from Dartmoor National Park.
