Malcolm Saville Society Visit to South Devon
April 4 – 6 saw the Malcolm Saville Society having their 29th Annual Gathering based at the Livermead House hotel in Torquay.
Malcolm Saville was an author of children’s adventure stories between the 1940s and 70s, most set in real places which his readers were encouraged to explore for themselves. The Society brings together people from all over the UK (and beyond) who grew up enjoying Malcolm Saville’s works.
Society members went searching for the Dartmoor and Devon coast locations in the two Lone Pine series books: ‘Saucers over the Moor’ – published in 1955, a tale involving flying saucers (a topical issue at the time) and enemy spies, and ‘Where’s my Girl’ – published 1972, where fishing and carved wooden horses are a front for much more sinister criminal activity.
The Society is always keen to welcome new members, and anyone interested in finding out more can visit www.witchend.com or simply search ‘Malcolm Saville Society’.
