Man jailed to 14 years for manslaughter

A man has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment with a five year extension following the death of a man in Plymouth.

Paul Quantick [pictured], 35, of Union Street, Plymouth, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 44-year-old Gary Miller, from Devonport, whose body was discovered on Saturday 17 December 2016.

Mr Quantick was arrested and charged shortly after the discovery.

Detective Inspector Ian Ringrose who led the investigation said: “We are pleased that we have achieved a conviction for the manslaughter of Gary Miller. This was a particularly challenging investigation for a number of reasons, primarily because the suspect claimed to have no recollection of the incident.

“The investigation involved a detailed piecing together of CCTV and the gathering of other evidence, to put together the suspect’s movements from leaving the murder scene up to his arrest in Bristol. We acknowledge the medical expert’s view that Hayers had diminished responsibility, however this does not detract from the thorough and meticulous investigation that was carried out by detectives and staff in the major crime investigation team who worked on this case, to bring about a successful conviction.
