Memory Matters South West celebrate over £300,000 Lottery windfall

Memory Matters in Plymouth is celebrating after receiving £305,000 in National Lottery funding.

The project works with people living with mild to moderate dementia and will deliver the Memory Matters Day Club project, which includes weekly day clubs and therapy sessions for participants. They have open days in Bodmin, St Austell, Liskeard and Wadebridge this week.

The project will bring people living with dementia together into therapeutic groups to talk openly about the challenges they face, and engage with the local community to raise awareness of how they can better support those affected by the condition.

Tom McCulloch, Head of Funding for the South West region at the Big Lottery Fund, said: “We’re proud to be funding Memory Matters Day Club. Thanks to National Lottery players, this project will reach people living with dementia in Plymouth and engage with the local community to raise awareness of the support available in the area.”

Sophie Hester, Team Leader at Memory Matters, said: “We are delighted, it will make a real difference to people living with dementia in our communities. Thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to continue providing much needed dementia support to our beneficiaries and their families.”

The Big Lottery Fund distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good cause. Last year it awarded over £127 million to projects across the UK supporting older people.
