A new support group has launched in Devon & Cornwall, with the hope of supporting those affected by Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD). Supported by the PSPA, the meetings will take place monthly across the region.

PSP and CBD are rare neurological conditions that cause problems with balance, movement, vision, speech and swallowing. Affecting only 4,000 people in the UK, there is no cure or disease-slowing treatments available.

Florence Bate, Support Group Coordinator for PSPA Devon & Cornwall said: “The PSPA is a lifeline for many, and following my father’s diagnosis of PSP earlier this year, it felt important to create a community in the South West, where people can come together and feel supported. The first online meeting was incredibly well-received and we’re looking at arranging monthly in-person meetings alternating between Devon and Cornwall.

By giving those affected a space to share knowledge and information, we hope that living with and caring for people with illnesses such as PSP and CBD doesn’t feel so lonely.”
