Physically disabled man robbed in Plymouth

Police are hunting for two men who robbed and assaulted a 42-year-old physically disabled man on a Plymouth street for just £10.

The victim, who uses a walking stick, was on Mannamead Road at 10.45pm on Thursday [28 January] when he was approached by the two men.

They demanded cash and then rifled through his pockets.

When he hit one of them with his stick, he was punched in the chest and knocked unconscious when he fell to the ground.

The offenders grabbed £10 from the victim’s jacket pocket and made off.

The victim, who is from Plymouth, was treated by ambulance and is now recovering at home.

Police investigating the robbery are seeking the offenders and appealing for witnesses to come forward and contact them.

One offender is described as white, mid 30s, with short mousy brown hair and facial stubble. He was wearing a navy blue top and blue jeans.

The second man is aged 20 to 30, around 5ft 4ins tall, with a slight moustache and possibly bald. He was wearing a cream coloured fleece and blue jeans.

Detective Constable Helen Batten said: “This was a cowardly attack on a man with a disability for a small sum of money. The victim was left very shaken by this incident.

“We would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information which would assist the investigation to come forward and speak to us.”
