Plans underway for History Festival

Plans for this year’s Plymouth's History Festival are well under way, with more than 100 different events already confirmed.

The festival will run from 1 to 31 May and a wide range of historical events are taking place across the city, providing residents and visitors with opportunities to celebrate and learn more about Plymouth's heritage.

Local organisations have been busy pulling together and confirming their event details since late 2014. The programme can now be seen at www.plymhistoryfest.wordpress.com.

This year’s festival will include exhibitions and displays, talks and presentations, behind-the-scenes tours, guided walks, family-friendly activities and a series of special events and open days. A new category featuring events that are food, drink, music and performance-based has also been introduced for 2015.

Many of the events are free although a number require advance booking. Full booking and admission details can be found on the website.

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “Every year I’m astounded at the variety in the History Festival programme as well as the number of events it inspires local organisations, venues and societies to offer. The festival caters for all ages and interests and events are held in many different locations, not just in the city centre but also around the waterfront and throughout the suburbs. It‘s a real achievement for a city to create such an extensive programme. I‘m sure this year‘s festival will be just as successful as the last.”

More events will be added to the festival programme as they are confirmed.
