Plymouth’s Half Marathon 2015 will be taking place on Sunday 19th April.

This established event is an annual fixture in the city’s  calendar and 2015 will see thousands of runners take to the streets, many of whom will be raising money for charity.

Using the city’s streets for the race will cause some changes to usual traffic routes. In planning the event every effort is made to minimise the disruption caused with the closing of roads. Where closures occur, and where possible, diversions will be in place to ensure continued access around the city for motorists and public transport. The roads that will be closed are listed below.

The roads closed are:

•         Cliff Road
•         Western Road
•         Madeira Road
•         The Barbican
•         Southside Street
•         Sutton Road
•         Barbican Approach
•         Gydnia Way
•         Embankment Lane
•         Haye Road
•         Elburton Road

The roads partially closed are:

•         West Hoe Road
•         Hoe Road
•         B3240- Vauxhall Street and Breton Side
•         A374/Exeter Street
•         A374/Embankment Road
•         Commercial Road
•         Shapters Road
•         A379/Laira Bridge Road, Laira Bridge
•         Billacombe Road
•         The Ride
•         Sherford Road (no exit onto A379)

Parking restrictions will be in place from 6.00am on Sunday 19th April on the roads marked above. Please also note:

A374 Exeter Street: Traffic will be able to move in both directions as usual.

Cattedown: Access via Cattedown Road, or by turning left from Laira Bridge Road westbound into Finnigan Road.

A38 / Plympton: Access from the City Centre is via Embankment Road - the bus & taxi lane restriction will be suspended and open to all traffic from 6.00am – 2.00pm. Alternatively, access Embankment Road via Lanhydrock Road or Old Laira Road.

Billacombe Road: The eastbound carriageway of Billacombe Road will be fully closed.  Traffic will be managed so it can continue to flow in both directions on the westbound carriageway (except for HGVs).

Elburton Road: The eastbound carriageway of Elburton Road will be fully closed.  Traffic will be managed so it can continue to flow in both directions on the westbound carriageway (except for HGVs).

Plymstock: Access from Elburton Road via Springfield Road and Pomphlett roundabout.

A map of the 2015 route and diversion summary is attached. We will operate a dynamic reopening scheme to ensure that roads are re-opened as soon as runners have completed each section of the route. Road closures will start operating from 6.00am in most areas, with a dynamic re-opening schedule from 9.45am to ensure roads are re-opened as soon as runners have completed each section of the route. All roads will be fully re-opened by 2.00pm.

Please note, once closures are in place, no vehicles will be permitted onto the race route until closures are lifted. An estimated reopening schedule is as follows:

•         Cliff Road, Great Western Road & Grand Parade – 10.00am
•         Billacombe Road & Elburton Road – 11.15am
•         Haye Road – 11.30am
•         The Ride – 12.15pm
•         All Remaining Roads – 1.00pm

We appreciate your understanding with any inconvenience you experience due to these restrictions and hope this advance notice helps with planning your travel around the closures. Please do allow extra time for your journey.
