Plymouth Oddfellows Gather at Edgcumbe Court

On a bright and sunny day, members of the Oddfellows Friendly Society in Plymouth came together at Edgcumbe Court for a regular meeting of the Pride of the West with Saint Andrew’s Oddfellows Lodge.

After coffee, the meeting commenced under the leadership of Brenda Lowe, the Noble Grand – chairperson - who expressed her gratitude to the Immediate Past Noble Grand, Michael O’Leary, for his arrangements that allowed the meeting to take place at this alternate location on this occasion rather than the usual venue at Saint Budeaux Hall.

Topics discussed included ongoing member welfare issues, local events and activities, the upcoming annual meeting, charitable initiatives, the regular Sunday lunch group, and safety advice regarding online and telephone scams, among other matters.

At the end of the meeting, members were given puzzle sheets to take home, along with information about a new prize-winning craft competition being introduced in the district.

The group then enjoyed a short stroll through the nearby gardens, which offers breathtaking views of Plymouth Sound, before having lunch—a three-course meal with table service, complete with a cheeseboard and a selection of wines and other beverages, which all members relished. Michael proposed a toast to the Oddfellows, which was met with gratitude from everyone present.

After lunch, the friendship group reconvened, where members had teas and coffees while reminiscing over a collection of photographs from Michael’s time with the society. His involvement was inspired by his late and dearly missed wife, Barbara, who had served as the Provincial Grand Master of the Plymouth and Truro District.

The day was truly enjoyable and unforgettable, highlighting the strong sense of friendship and support available to Oddfellows members.
