Plymouth's top dog friendly destination
Saturday 16th April sees local charity Woodside Animal Sanctuary team up with the Royal William Yard for its Second Annual Dog Show.
The event will begin at 11am on the lawn.
Dog owners are invited to enter their dogs into any of ten event classes at just £1 per dog, per class, and rosettes will be given from 1st through to 3rd place. All proceeds will be going towards the welfare of the animals at Woodside and there will be a Woodside gazebo on the lawn offering further information on the animals at Woodside and the process of re-homing.
The Royal William Yard has fast become one of the city’s top dog destinations. The Yard, developed by property firm Urban Splash, is steeped in military history and is home to the largest collection of Grade I Listed military buildings in Europe, but with its wealth of dog friendly establishments it also has found itself fast becoming a firm favourite for all the family. A position the Yard looks set to strengthen this year with its second dog show.
Dogs are welcomed at all the outside seating areas of Wagamamma, Prezzo, Las Iguanas, Rockets & Rascals, Le Vignoble and River Cottage. Seco Lounge dogs are welcome both inside and out, at Bistrot Pierre they can sit with their owners both in the bar area and on the patio overlooking the lawn and Wildwood allow them at tables in their outside courtyard.
With an hourly water bus service between RWY and Plymouth’s Barbican, the Plymouth landmark attracts visitors and their four legged friends from far and wide, including those who wish to take advantage of its berthing and mooring facilities at the on-site marina.
Walkers on the South West Coast Path can enter the yard via the award-winning cantilevered stairs that link RWY to Devil’s Point whilst Cyclists can ride into RWY on hire bikes from Rockets and Rascals which has branches within RWY and at the Barbican.
Attila Boros from Bistrot Pierre says of the Bistrot’s dog policy: “The French love le chien as much as the English, and at Bistrot Pierre we’re delighted to welcome visitors and their dogs. We have an all-day bar menu and well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar all year round, as well as a large seating area overlooking the lawn which is very popular too.”

1. 11.00am – Dog most like their owner
2. 11.20am – Waggliest Tail
3. 11.40am – Prettiest Bitch
4. 12 noon – Most Handsome Male
5. 12.20pm – Best bad hair day
6. 12.40pm – Best Rescue
7. 1.00pm – Golden Oldie (9 years upwards)
8. 1.20pm – Best Paw shaker
9. 1.40pm – Most Enchanting Eyes
10. 2.00pm – Dog judges would most like to take home
11. 2.20pm – Best in Show
