An 18-year-old man from South Wales has been arrested after crashing twice on the road to Plymouth this morning.

Police in Devon would like to appeal to early morning drivers who may have seen a white Vauxhall Corsa being driven erratically along the M5 westbound and then onto the A38 heading towards Plymouth.

It is understood a white Corsa was in collision with another vehicle in the Chudleigh area on the A38 at around 6.45am on Wednesday "25 September) but the vehicle continued on its way.

It is thought the Corsa was then involved in another collision in the Plympton area. The vehicle was found abandoned at around 7.45am. The driver was located a short time later, near to the scene and is now in police custody.

A police spokesman said: “We understand this car was being driven at high speed and was in contact with at least two vehicles. Thankfully no one was injured.

"We will obviously be speaking to these drivers to ascertain full details but we’re keen to hear from any other driver who would’ve been travelling along the M5/A38 stretch in Devon heading towards Plymouth, who may have seen this white Corsa.  If so, we’d like to hear from them as this will assist our investigation.”

An 18-year-old man from the South Wales area has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs and other driving related offences. He remains in police custody while further enquiries are carried out.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 103 of 25 September as a reference.
