Police name motorcyclist seriously injured in A38 tanker collision

Police have issued a statement on behalf of the family of the motorcyclist seriously injured in a collision with a tanker on the A38 on Monday (10 June). The man has been named as Adam Smart.

Mr Smart's injuries are described as potentially fatal and he remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The statement reads as follows:

"On the morning of Monday 10 June, at around 7.45am, Adam Smart, a 20-year-old local man, was involved in a road traffic collision when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a heavy goods vehicle.

"As a result Adam has sustained serious injuries and is being treated at Derriford Hospital for what are described as potentially fatal injuries.

"The collision took place on the A38 at the Carkeel roundabout on the A38 in Saltash.

"The investigation into the cause of the collision is being investigated.

"His family are with him and they request at the present time that friends, associates and the media respect their wishes for privacy at this traumatic time."

The collision occurred on the A38 at Saltash at around 7.45am on the Carkeel roundabout.

The A38 was closed on the Liskeard side and one lane of the Saltash Tunnel was also closed.

The closure caused delays as police advised motorists to avoid the area if at all possible.

The A38 at Carkeel roundabout reopened at 2pm. Police thanked motorists for their patience.

The cause of the collision is being investigated by the Force Serious Collisions Investigation Unit.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log number 102 of 10/06/13.
