A search is underway for a man who has absconded from HMP Leyhill in Gloucestershire. Police report that enquiries have traced him to the Plymouth area.

Wayne Richard Head, aged 35, was last seen in Leyhill prison at 5.30am on Monday (2 September) and was reported missing a few hours later. He is serving an indeterminate sentence for a robbery committed in 2007.

It was believed he may try and return to the Plymouth area as he has connections there and police have now been able to confim this is the case.

He caught the 9.48am train from Bristol Temple Meads to Plymouth on Sunday morning so police are now focusing their enquiries in the city.

Avon and Gloucestershire Police are working with Devon and Cornwall Police to locate and return him to prison.

Head is described as a white man around 5'11" tall with a medium build and brown, shaved hair.

Anyone who has seen Wayne Head since he went missing or knows his current whereabouts should contact Avon and Somerset Police on 101.
