Record 1,000 runners sign up for half marathon
Organisers of Plymouth’s Half Marathon, GO2, are pleased to announce that the event has already attracted a record breaking 1,100 entries! Over 500 of those were secured in the first 24 hours of entries opening, and race data suggests that for 40 percent of these runners, the popular event will be their first ever half marathon distance.
Jamie Warren, Head of Marketing and Commercial at GO2, said: "The interest in Plymouth’s Half Marathon has far exceeded all of our initial expectations, particularly with so many new runners setting Sunday 19th April as their goal to aim for in 2015. After the success of this month’s Plymouth 10k, we knew that many runners would use the shorter distance event as a stepping stone of encouragement to take on the half marathon.
“We often find that once people complete their first running event, no matter what level of runner they are, they catch the running bug and always return for more! Combined with the high number of pre registrations, and also our discounted early bird offer, we look set to stage one of the largest half marathon events the city of Plymouth has ever seen!”
Now heading into its 22nd year, Plymouth’s Half Marathon is known for its spectacular scenery, fantastic spectator support and friendly atmosphere. The race will start in style on the Hoe, before taking in a stunning and varied course that boasts coastal views, the charming Barbican harbour, and even the beautiful National Trust grounds of Saltram Park. The 13.1 mile journey will then bring you back to the Hoe, where you can expect thousands of supporters waiting to cheer you across the finish line!
