Scouts running to the fun
Scouts from the Plymouth area were amongst over 300 hundred Scouts taking part in “Run to the Fun” at Exeter Racecourse this week. Scouts from other countries such as Australia, Iceland and Russia gave this camp an international flavour.
The Jamboree contained various “Go Zones” where young people were able to try activities or even learn skills for life such as team building and making friends. The young people were able to have a go on the “Big Air Bag” which meant jumping from a large platform onto a giant air bag below.
Run to the Fun provided Scouts with the ‘Dartmoor Experience’, this is where young people were taken to the Haytor area of Dartmoor and were given the opportunity to learn about the history of the Dartmoor and some of its hidden spooky stories. Cameron a Scout from 1st Ivybridge Scout Group said “I’ve tried loads of exciting activities this week that I'd never have tried if I'd not gone. I found the Dartmoor stories really interesting but I’m still not sure which stories are fact and which ones are fiction“.
Trevor Munro, Media Manager from Devon Scouts said “The young people enjoyed a fun and adventure filled week, the weather did let us down on the first day with the wind being the biggest challenge but that didn’t stop the young people from having fun”.
‘Go Global’ was a popular part of the Jamboree, this ‘Go Zone’ gave the young people the chance to meet new friends and enjoy various types of street food, the most popular section of ‘Go Global’ was most certainly the stone base pizza ovens.
Scouting continues to provide adventurous, challenging and fun development opportunities for young people, regardless of religion, race, social or economic background.
