She’s a gentle pooch, loved by Ivybridge residents. Now Sushi the dog will be hosting her own book signing at the Ivybridge bookshop on Saturday 3nd February 2024. The event begins at 10am

She will be joined by author Mari Lopes (49), a counsellor and Sushi’s owner. The book is a self-help guide for children struggling to come to terms with grief. It’s called Sushi is Sad.

As Lopes explained. “Mental health is the unreported long-tail of the Covid crisis and children often struggle to manage things that may have been easier ten years ago. Grief is one of those sensitive subjects whether it’s the loss of a friend, grandparent and even a pet.”

“This book is about giving them the tools to deal with the loss of a loved one. I see many young people in my work and the power of a gentle dog to touch vulnerable lives in a positive way is very noticeable.”

Sushi is Sad is the first in a series of five books to be published by Lopes. Further Sushi books will help young people come to terms with anxiety, anger, friendships and self-esteem.

Media are welcome to come to the event. Mari and Sushi would also love to talk to reporters at any time.
