SW couples say ‘I do’ to a cost-friendly wedding

A new study conducted by crafting company Stampin’ Up! UK reveals South West citizens to be cost-conscious where wedding spending is concerned.

The survey asked respondents to state how much they thought reasonable to spend on a wedding – not including honeymoon.  Previous surveys conducted by a variety of businesses have suggested that a ‘typical’ wedding comes in at the £18-20k figure. Even popular BBC1 show ‘Don’t Tell the Bride’ gives husbands-to-be a budget of 14k to play with. But it would seem attitudes are changing.

A fifth of respondents in the South West (20%) think a budget of £600 - £1499 is reasonable to spend on the big day – one of the highest proportion of people choosing this bracket in the UK. In comparison, only 10% of respondents in Greater London opted for this budget range. Overall, more than half of UK respondents - 62% - believe that a wedding should cost no more than £5,000. And only 6% of respondents regard £15k+ as a reasonable expenditure. Clearly, love, happiness and a memorable day cannot simply be bought. Indeed, couples are turning to the personal touch in order to create lasting memories.
