Teenagers seriously injured in Plympton collision

Two teenagers were left seriously injured after a vehicle overturned in Plympton on Saturday night (30 May).

Police and emergency services were called to Boringdon Hill at 11pm after the silver VW Polo containing five people somersaulted and landed on its roof on the pavement.

Local residents gave first aid to two male teenagers who had been thrown from the vehicle during the collision.

The boys, aged 15 and 17, and both from Plympton, remain in Derriford Hospital with serious injuries.

Three other male occupants of the vehicle made off from the scene before emergency services arrived. They were later traced by police.

An 18-year-old man from Plymouth later attended Charles Cross police station and was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking. He has been released on police bail until 27 August 2015.

The road was closed for almost eight hours while officers carried out a specialist forensic investigation of the scene. The road was reopened at 6:45am on Sunday (31 May).

Police from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses to this incident and would like to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle travelling along Boringdon Hill prior to the collision.
