Next week, Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) will be hosting a very special, one-off fundraising event on The Lyric stage.

On Monday 11 March, TRP’s Chief Executive Officer & Executive Producer James Mackenzie Blackman will be in conversation with Dawn French and Dame Darcey Bussell reflecting on their careers and sharing stories that will likely lurch from the Royal Ballet, Strictly, Comic Relief, The Vicar of Dibley and back-again.

A multi-award-winning actor and comedian, and a true national treasure, Dawn French has delighted audiences around the world whilst always being deeply proud of her Plymouth roots.

Dame Darcey Bussell DBE, is one of the greatest dancers of her generation. A former Principal dancer of the Royal Ballet, Darcey recently established a base in Plymouth and one year ago was appointed Chair of Trustees at TRP.

After the event, Dawn will host a book-signing for her new memoir which reflects on the past six decades.

Dawn said: “I’m looking forward to sitting down with Darcey and James and reminiscing about work and life and delving into things that have happened to get us to this point; both good and bad; planned and incidental. Darcey starring in The Vicar of Dibley 25 years ago was a genuine highlight as it took me back to my childhood when I used to take ballet lessons. It made me very happy and I’m looking forward to sharing that with Plymouth audiences.”

Dame Darcey said: “I feel very fortunate to have worked alongside Dawn and call her my friend. I am so grateful that she has agreed to kindly give up her time to support us. As Chair of Trustees, Theatre Royal Plymouth obviously means a lot to me and I am immensely proud to support the important work being done by TRP for the wider community and the industry. The evening with Dawn will be a wonderful chance for us to share our love of the theatre, fun anecdotes about our time on stage, and how we’ve evolved through our careers.”

All proceeds that are raised through this exclusive event will be going towards furthering the work of TRP.

James said: “Dawn and Darcey are two unbelievably talented individuals who have reached the summit in their industries and I will feel very humbled to share a stage with them. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for supporting this fundraising event and sharing their wisdom and personal tales with our Plymouth audience. It’s going to be an evocative evening full of laughs and I’m sure we’ll all learn a thing or two.”
