The third Bladder and Bowel Event
The third Bladder and Bowel Event (BABE) is set to take place on Wednesday 11 May 2016.
BABEs are aimed at supporting people with bladder and bowel problems and are organised by staff from Derriford's colorectal and uro-gynae teams.
Taking place 11am until 2pm at the Future Inn, Derriford, the event will include talks on pelvic floor and breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, as well as, discussions on Diverticular disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome, overactive bladder medication and pelvic organ prolapse.
There will also be an opportunity to ‘meet the specialists’ too, with experts from the team on hand to offer helpful advice, including diet and lifestyle changes.
Ann Cornelius, Pelvic Floor Nurse, Colorectal Services, said: “This is our third event now and from the feedback we’ve received so far, the sessions have been deemed very helpful by those who have attended. I know some felt anxious about coming along but by the end of the sessions they felt able to engage with the team and even ask questions about their symptoms.
“We know that quite often people cannot talk to others about the problems of urinary and faecal incontinence because they may feel embarrassed. It is not uncommon to meet people who have been experiencing symptoms for more than 10 years and even their nearest and dearest do not know the full extent of the problem. On many occasions, some very simple advice can help alleviate symptoms which are causing significant upset to the individual concerned.”
Anyone who is interested in joining one of the sessions can email plh-tr.BABE@nhs.net or call 01752 430033 and leave your name and contact number.
