Time to talk travel again!

Plymouth City Council is offering residents in Plympton, Plymstock and Peverell a chance to win one of five £100 gift vouchers this spring as part of its Plymotion green travel programme.

Plymotion aims to improve walking, cycling and public transport links and encourage people to try greener, cheaper and healthier ways of getting around.

One part of the project – Plymotion on Your Doorstep – involves travel advisors visiting local residents, chatting about how they get around the city and providing advice on the different travel options available to them. The team are able to give residents one-to-one help with planning their journeys as well as information about various travel incentives on offer.

Plymotion on Your Doorstep started in 2012 and since then the team have knocked on almost 29,000 doors in Mount Gould, St Judes, the East End, Keyham, Devonport, Stonehouse, the city centre and the Barbican and spoken to more 5,000 people.

This year’s programme is the biggest yet, with the team hoping to visit more than 30,000 properties in Plympton, Plymstock and Peverell. Before they start chatting to people they would like to get an initial picture of how people currently get from A to B and how aware they are of alternative travel options.

Residents are being asked to take part in a 10-minute survey, with a chance to win one of five £100 high street gift vouchers. Households included in the survey will shortly receive a copy through their letterbox or be invited to complete it on their doorstep. The surveys can also be completed online at www.plymouth.gov.uk/plymotiononyourdoorstep.

Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “Plymotion on Your Doorstep has been really well received by residents and lots of them have said they’ve found chatting to our advisors helpful. The surveys are a really important part of the programme as they help us to understand what shapes the way people travel and what advice and measures will be most useful to them. The information we gather also helps when we’re making future decisions on transport provision in the city. I’d therefore really encourage everyone who gets a copy of the survey to fill it in and send it back to us.”
