Top attractions across Devon are offering easy car-free days out this summer, with many providing rewards and discounts for visitors who arrive by train, bus, bike or foot.

The attractions are all members of Good Journey, the champions of car-free leisure travel. Their website, goodjourney.org.uk, features over 500 attractions that welcome car-free visitors.

During the summer holidays, as tourist traffic hits the M5 and temperatures rise, Devon residents can find it stressful and frustrating to venture out in cars. That’s why these attractions are making it easy and rewarding to visit by public transport, bike or foot.

Devon attractions welcoming car-free visitors include:

  • National Trust Killerton, just a short bus or bike ride away from Exeter. Car-free visitors get to choose a free second-hand book from the bookshop. Killerton is hosting a Summer Of Play with games and activities for all ages.
  • National Trust A la Ronde, near Exmouth, are offering four bargain books to car-free visitors.
  • RHS Garden Rosemoor give 30% off entry to car-free visitors. They’re also trialling dog-friendly days every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this summer so you can take your dog to the gardens with you.
  • National Trust Cotehele are offering a free hot drink when you show a valid train ticket, bus ticket or bike helmet.

The Good Journey website also provides easy car-free directions to National Trust Castle Drogo, Diggerland Devon, Paignton Zoo and the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth.

Let the bus or train take the strain

“Like many UK holiday destinations, Devon can get very busy with cars during the summer,” said Good Journey Founder Nat Taplin. “A car-free day out is the perfect way to escape the crowds, soak up the beautiful scenery and relax. You’re saving money on parking and petrol, plus Good Journey attractions offer brilliant rewards to people who arrive by train, bus, bike or foot. So, leave all the stress of driving and parking behind and simply pack a picnic, take a good book or just sit back and relax as you let the bus or train take the strain!”
