Two arrested as police mount armed operation on Plymouth street
Armed police mounted an operation on a Plymouth street last night (Wednesday 10 July) in response to reports that two men were carrying weapons.
A police helicopter was also dispatched.
Police were initially called to Laira Bridge Road at 7.25pm. Police say one suspect was promptly arrested by officers.
The other suspect ran into a house in Laira Place. Armed officers were called to contain the house and, after a lengthy standoff, the man was arrested at midnight.
A number of police vehicles lined Embankment Road during the incident as members of the public looked on.
A spokesperson for the police said: "Both men, aged 23 and 25 from Plymouth, were arrested on suspicion of affray. They were taken to Crownhill police station to be questioned by officers.
"Enquiries are continuing."
