The team at Buckland Abbey, near Yelverton, are hosting a volunteer recruitment day on Tuesday 15 March from 11am to 2pm.

Volunteers are essential to keeping Sir Francis Drake’s home open for generations to come by helping across the house, garden and wider estate, and bringing the property to life for visitors.

‘We can’t thank our volunteers enough for the help and support they give us. We could not open our doors without them,’ says James Breslin, Visitor Experience Manager. ‘Volunteering is a very rewarding experience. Not only is it a chance to meet new people while helping with the day-to-day running of the estate, but it also provides an opportunity to gain new skills and have fun along the way.’

During the volunteer recruitment day, interested members of the public will be able to meet teams from across Buckland Abbey, enjoy a cup of a tea, and learn about the current volunteering opportunities available.

These include room guides to help within the Abbey, to welcome visitors at reception, to provide hands-on maintenance work outdoors and to drive the visitor buggies. Full training is provided.

‘It’s going to be an exciting year at Buckland Abbey with many new stories being unveiled’ said Richard Burrow, Visitor Experience Officer. ‘I’m looking forward to welcoming new volunteers to the team to help with our ambitious plans over the years ahead.’
