Wembury Marine Centre gets new wheels

The ever-popular Wembury Marine Centre, near Plymouth has received a welcome boost as it prepares for its busy summer season.

Vospers, leaders in vehicle sales and aftercare in the South West, have agreed to lease the Marine Centre a Dacia Duster at a rock bottom discount rate. The car will prove vital in taking the Centre’s education staff to local schools and events promoting the positive messages about Devon’s wonderful marine environment.

Wembury Marine Centre is operated by Devon Wildlife Trust in a partnership with Devon County Council, South Hams District Council, Plymouth University Marine Institute and the National Trust. The Centre’s Coral Smith said: “Each summer Wembury Marine Centre welcomes 20,000 people through its doors and to its events. Last year we also worked with schools, bringing the beauty and wonder of life in Devon’s seas into the lives of hundreds of local children. This vital education work requires a great deal of travel for me and our four volunteer wardens. The lease of a vehicle from Vospers will make this travel so much easier in an area where public transport is limited.”

Richard Cole, Vospers Rentals Manager, said: “We’re delighted that the Dacia Duster will be getting put to very good use by Wembury Marine Centre. The work carried out by the team, along with the Devon Wildlife Trust is a fantastic asset to the local community and we’re pleased that Vospers have been able to assist with the vehicle lease.”

The vehicle has been given a bright livery combining the Vospers logo with that of Devon Wildlife Trust, along with a fish and dolphin motif. Wembury Marine Centre’s Coral Smith said: “We certainly should be easy to spot as we travel the roads around Wembury and the South Hams! It will be a great way to get our marine education work noticed.”

Wembury Marine Centre is open every day throughout spring and summer. It is free to enter. The Centre combines displays and live exhibits with a regular series of marine events. Nearby Wembury beach offers some of the most fascinating rockpool exploration in the UK, while the seas off Devon’s south coast provide a precious haven for marine wildlife. The big event this year is the Marine Centre’s birthday party on Saturday 12th July to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Running from 10am to 4pm, it will offer a strandline walk, a rockpool ramble, starfish arts and crafts, and a chance to see the new Vospers vehicle.
