Work club help for Whitleigh job hunters
Whitleigh residents looking for work are being offered a helping hand at a special event next week.
Plymouth City Council and Plymouth Community Homes will be on Whitleigh Green on Monday 3 June from 11am until 5pm talking to people about the work club and the opportunities it offers.
The work club runs every Tuesday morning at the Salvation Hall in Lancaster Gardens. Drop in sessions are run by the Council, Plymouth Community Homes, Cornwall College, the Salvation Army, the Job Centre, Working Links and Barclays Bank. Whitleigh job seekers can get advice on CV writing, setting up email and universal job match accounts, filling in application forms, interview skills, setting up businesses, job searching and general motivational support.
There are also courses that lead to a National Open College Network Certificate (NOCN).
Councillor Chris Penberthy, Cabinet member for Co-operatives and Community Development said: "The work club is a great example of organisations working co-operatively for the benefit of a community. While it is focused on helping people get ready for work and find a job, it is also informal and the teams aim to make people feel relaxed and comfortable as they learn."
Lorraine Oliver, Housing Officer at Whitleigh for Plymouth Community Homes, said: "We'd really encourage local job hunters to come along to the job club. It's great that we've been able to play a part in helping people find work, whether it's by offering advice on interviews, giving them a hand brushing up their CV or helping them to use the internet."
Anyone interested in taking part in the work club can pop along to Whitleigh Green on Monday for more information or drop into the sessions on a Tuesday morning at the Salvation Hall.
