From wakeboarding to windsurfing, a wealth of watersports activities will be on offer to the public in March.

Organised by Plymouth University and the University’s Students’ Union, Spring Splash 2013 - Plymouth Premier Watersports Festival includes taster sessions supervised by qualified instructors and student volunteers.  The day will be delivered in partnership with the Mount Batten Centre, with its first class facilities for such an event.

The University of Plymouth Students’ Union Watersports Officer, Philip Timings said: “The event has been running for four years now, with each one seeing more and more participants.  We aim to raise aspirations by encouraging an active lifestyle which benefits from the local marine environment and provides low cost opportunities to try a wide range of sports on the water.”

Other activities available include dinghy sailing, keelboat sailing, kayaking and rowing.  And for those who can brave the waves until the end, the day will finish off with a BBQ and informal social event including music and a bar.

Sport & Recreation Manager Dave Furniss said: “The festival is a great way to showcase Plymouth’s stunning backdrop which has been host to some great competitions over the last few years.  We hope to keep that momentum and encourage and support anyone who comes along, from the experienced to the novice, to enjoy their time on the water.”

Events start from 10am at the Mount Batten Centre on Saturday 9 March.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from http://www.upsu.com/shop/ or on the day of the event.  It is recommended to book in advance to avoid disappointment on the day as the event is very popular and sessions fill up fast.

General enquiries about the activities on the day should be emailed to the UPSU Watersports Officer Philip.timings@su.plymouth.ac.uk
