Plymouth's 1000 Club hits 100 members

Bluebird Care, based in Plympton, has become the 100th member of Plymouth’s 1000 Club.

The 1000 Club is a city wide initiative aimed at encouraging 1000 businesses to provide a job or work experience to a young person.

To celebrate this milestone, the leader of Plymouth Council, Councillor Tudor Evans will present Bluebird Care with a commemorative certificate.

Jobcentre Plus worked closely with Bluebird Care to help them recruit local youngster, Leanne Bird.

21-year-old Leanne said: “The Jobcentre was great! I told them the type of job I thought I would be good at and they suggested I talk to Bluebird Care.

"My Jobcentre adviser set up the interview and Bluebird Care put me through their 4 day induction course and several days of shadowing. They then offered me a job, which I am really enjoying. It feels good helping people.”

Alexander Allan, Director of Bluebird Care, said: “We look after older people and people with disabilities in their own homes. Our reputation is carried by our staff out in the community; we have a great team who have been selected for their professional and friendly manner. We are keen to support younger job seekers who take the lead, have high standards and are good with people."

Jobcentre Plus Employer Adviser Lisa Farmer said: “We have been working closely with the Directors at Bluebird Care to develop a tailored service to fulfil their recruitment needs, including running an open day to introduce jobseekers to Bluebird Care.”

Council Leader Tudor Evans said: "This is a great result for Leanne, Bluebird Care as well as all the partners who have got behind the 1000 Club and are committed to making sure that our young people get work opportunities and a chance to pick up skills - despite a difficult economic circumstances."
