Queen leaves hospital after treatment

The Queen left hospital on Monday afternoon after an overnight stay at the King Edward VII hospital in London for treatment for the symptoms of gastroenteritis.

The 86 year old monarch had been expected to remain in hospital for 2 days but was discharged in 'good spirits' after a precautionary stay having been suffering from a stomach complaint since last week.

Her engagements for this week, including a trip to Rome, have been cancelled or postponed.

The King Edward VII in Marylebone has often been the preferred hospital for the Royal Family, most recently treating the Duchess of Cambridge for severe morning sickness.

This was the Queen's first admittance to hospital for 10 years and a palace spokesperson said she was in otherwise 'good health'.
