Spirited Argyle hold on to seal key victory
Plymouth Argyle 2 Fleetwood Town 1
League Two, Saturday 16th March
The hearts and spirits of the loyal Pilgrims' fans were lifted with a hard fought victory against Fleetwood Town.
Plymouth Argyle's latest home game was a must-win given their precarious position in the League Two relegation zone and they delivered with first half goals from Paul Wotton and Jason Banton.
2-0 up, John Sheridan's side appeared to be easing to victory until David Ball scored for Fleetwood 15 minutes from time, ensuring a nervous finale for Argyle.
Paul Wotton's penalty (awarded for a foul on Jason Banton) and recent scoring hero Banton's thunderous 39th minute strike had given Plymouth a cushion but with more than half the game still to go, they could not relax.
Despite some anxious moments, the Pilgrims dug in defensively and held on to move out of the relegation zone, though things could not be tighter with the bottom 5 teams all on 40 points.
