Golfers invited to aim for national glory
Golfers from across the South West will make their way to Staddon Heights Golf Club in Plymouth early next month in their quest to qualify for the final of a national competition.
The annual Licensed Trade Charity Golf Tournament sees teams of four golfers taking each other on in a series of regional qualifiers. The Devon heat, taking place on Friday 4th September, allows golfers of any standard to play at one of the South West’s premier golf courses and puts them within 18 holes of representing the county at the Sky-sponsored Grand Final in North Berwick in October.
Local golfers are being encouraged to aim for glory and get together a team of four players to join the fun at Staddon Heights, where they will be able to enjoy a social day of golf and dinner whilst taking on teams made up of publicans, breweries and pub players.
There is a serious side to the day though, with the winning team in the Licensed Trade Charity Golf Tournament Devon heat, sponsored by St Austell Brewery, receiving a trophy and automatic entry into the national final to compete against eleven other regional winners.
Devon heat organiser Phil Giorgetti said: “The heats nationwide have been a huge success over the past few months, generating a lot of excitement with the winners able to enjoy golf and dinner at the Archerfield Links Grand Final in October. Butcombe Brewery won the Somerset heat and are already preparing to represent the South West in North Berwick, and now we are calling out all Devon golfers to stake their claim to the title too and bring the overall crown back here”.
Places are still available and golfers of all standards are encouraged to sign up to enjoy a fantastic social and competitive day by calling Phil Giorgetti on 01934 862205 or emailing p.giorgetti@btinternet.com. Money raised by the tournament will help fund the Licensed Trade Charity’s work in Devon, helping people who have worked in pubs or breweries when they find themselves in difficulty, such as encountering problems with health or finances.
The competition is one of twelve regional heats open to golfers of all ability and supported by Sidney Phillips, specialists in sales and valuations of pubs and other licensed properties.
