£50m redevelopment plans for Higher Home Park and Central Park submitted
The ambitious £50m development plans for Higher Home Park and Central Park have been submitted to Plymouth city planners.
Images have been released of the plans which, if approved, could transform the area into a major state-of-the-art sporting and leisure destination.
The submission, by the Akkeron Group, has been made following several weeks of public consultation.
One of the headlines of the plan is a new Mayflower grandstand at Argyle's Home Park stadium to include additional seating plus new hospitality and retail facilities. This would aim to generate a increased revenue stream for the club to put it on a more stable financial footing and help realise its ambitions for promotion from League Two and beyond.
Other key proposals include a new international competition standard ice arena (to replace the rink at Plymouth Pavilions); a huge new cinema complex with an IMAX screen; and landscaping and public amenity improvements to Central Park;
Chairman of Plymouth Argyle and Akkeron, James Brent said: “We have been very encouraged by the level of interest, support and constructive feedback received from local people about our proposals.
“The views and suggestions we have received from the community have influenced and shaped key aspects of our proposals including the Home Park grandstand, improvements to Central Park, parking facilities and what the competition ice skaters in the city would like from their new arena.
“We believe this plan will reinvigorate Higher Home Park and greatly improve the offer for local people and visitors of all ages with a range of indoor and outdoor sporting, leisure and social activities. We have also designed with Plymouth City Council and local interest groups, including the Friends of Central Park, a significant package of enhancements for the park environment and public amenities.”
